Elementary classes are primarily self-contained, not requiring outside homework. At CSC, we purposely design the elementary classes to be supplemental to your homeschool. Very little homework is assigned outside of upper level writing and literature. We do provide parents with options assignments or curriculum suggestions should your family desire to incorporate what we're learning at co-op into your academic year. We desire for students to have enriching experiences to enhance their studies of science, history, literature and writing at home as well as offering a variety of elective options throughout the year (such as nature study, Spanish, geography, art and PE). We purposefully have a long lunch and recess time with the intention of helping both moms and students build great friendships and community together during the day. Students below kindergarten participate in nursery or preschool classes depending on the number of students and teacher availability. At the preschool level, we focus on play-based learning.
Once a quarter, we implement a “Schole Day” which looks very different from our normal class days, with the goal of diving a little deeper into something and allowing for outside speakers and group learning to occur. This is one of the community’s favorite elements!
We have an annual extra curricular events such as Maker’s Market, Grandparent's Day, Talent Show, Science Fair, Greek Olympics, Field Day etc. We also offer field trips, mom nights, and family events throughout the year as opportunities to grow in fellowship.
